Budget
How much a website costs in Switzerland in 2026: what to budget, and what moves the quote

In Switzerland a website costs anywhere from CHF 500 to more than CHF 30,000. The gap is not suspicious: a single page built with an online tool and a custom small business site in two languages are not the same job. For a small business or an independent in French-speaking Switzerland, a realistic budget for a showcase site is usually CHF 3,000 to 15,000, depending on who builds it.
The figures below come from a 2026 survey by the Swiss agency Beyondweb, which looked at 161 agencies and obtained actual prices from 36 of them. They are market ranges, not an official scale.
Price ranges, in CHF
- One-pager: CHF 500–1,500 with a fixed-price tool, CHF 700–2,200 with a freelancer, CHF 1,000–3,500 with an agency.
- Small business site (a few pages: services, about, contact): CHF 2,000–5,000 with a fixed-price tool, CHF 3,000–8,000 with a freelancer, CHF 5,000–15,000 with an agency.
- Complex site (lots of content, specific features, several languages): CHF 5,000–15,000 with a freelancer, CHF 10,000–30,000 with an agency.
- Web platform (client area, application): from CHF 25,000, with no ceiling.
The gap between freelancers and agencies comes mostly from hourly rates: CHF 110–180 an hour for a freelancer, CHF 120–250 for an agency, according to the same survey. An agency also splits the project across several people (project manager, designer, developer), and every handover is billed.
The CHF 490 offers: what they include
In French-speaking Switzerland you will find sites “from CHF 450” or plans at CHF 29 a month. They are real, but check what is included: a ready-made template with your text and logo, few pages, and often a subscription that ties you to the provider. Stop paying and the site stops too.
That kind of offer is fine for a business card online. For a site meant to bring enquiries from Google, it usually lacks the essentials: one page per service, copy written for your clients, and the technical base of SEO.
What moves a quote up or down
- Design. Adapting a WordPress template costs CHF 1,000–6,000; a design made for you starts closer to CHF 10,000 at an agency.
- Languages. In Switzerland this is often the biggest variable. A German or English version doubles part of the work: copy, pages, and SEO for each version.
- Copy. Writing it yourself lowers the quote; having it written (for Google and for your clients) raises it, but it is often what makes the difference.
- Features. Online booking, quote form, client area, store: each feature adds work and testing.
- Compliance. Since 1 September 2023 the new Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) applies: an up-to-date privacy notice, forms that collect only what is needed, and analytics set up accordingly.
Yearly costs, after launch
The build price is not the total cost. Every year, budget for:
- The .ch domain: about CHF 10–15 a year (CHF 5–20 depending on the registrar).
- Hosting for a 1–20 page site: about CHF 150–200 a year.
- Maintenance (updates, backups, security): from about CHF 300 a year for a one-pager, CHF 600 for a small business site.
- Paid plugins on a WordPress site: from CHF 50 a year each.
For a simple WordPress site the total is around CHF 300–600 a year. A modern static site (no database to keep updated) cuts maintenance noticeably.
The rule: ask for a written fixed price listing the pages and features, and check that the domain and hosting are in your name, not the provider’s.
Having your site built from abroad: cheaper, on conditions
A freelancer outside Switzerland costs less for the same scope, because the cost of living is not the same. It works when three conditions are met: a close time zone for calls, native-level French for the copy, and knowledge of Swiss rules (nFADP, legal notices, languages).
That is what I do from Casablanca, on Geneva time in winter and one hour behind in summer, for brands that sell far from home, like Odyss watches or AZERI bags. Brief, mockups and approvals happen by video call and in writing; you watch the site progress on a test address.
How to compare two quotes
- Are the number of pages and languages written down?
- Is the copy included, or expected from you?
- Is basic SEO (titles, speed, Google Business Profile) planned?
- Are the site, the domain and every access in your name?
- Which costs come back every year, and for what?
